In real life, Tarrant and his fiancee Lucy Hare ( Auckward Love's Vicky) have a six-month-old son, Beaumont, and he frankly admits to initially having had the odd reservation about playing a gay man on screen. Shortland Street's first same-sex pairing was in 1992 when ambulance officer Jaime Forrest (played by now-Hollywood star Karl Urban) fell for Isaac (Frank Tautali).
